Radiesse® Dermal Filler (Volumizer)

As we age, collagen and hyaluronic acid in our face tends to break down leading to skin laxity and a loss of structure and volume.  This eventually causes the skin to sag, wrinkle, and form folds leading to a less youthful appearance.  Radiesse is a volumizing dermal filler that, when injected into the skin, it stimulates the production of new collagen leading to a fuller lifted appearance.

The unique formula in Radiesse® is made of synthetic calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHa) suspended in a water-based gel, which upon injection, immediately fills in the targeted area producing instantaneous results.  Over time, the gel itself is then absorbed by your body leaving behind the CaHa, which acts like a scaffolding structure for your body to use to build it’s own collagen.  Because its effects are immediate and long term, we call this type of treatment a volumizer rather than a wrinkle-filler such as Belotero®  and Juvéderm Ultra Plus.

Because Radiesse® has such a dramatic effect, it’s ideal for people with deeper lines and wrinkles as well as to provide a fuller looking “apple of the cheek”—a desirable feature of youthfulness in the midface region.

How Does it Work?

  • Destruction of collagen scaffolding is a main factor in loss of skin volume, elasticity, and firmness
  • Gel matrix with CaHA microspheres immediately fills lost volume
  • CaHA microspheres form a scaffold that stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen
  • A firm collagen fiber network is formed in the dermis
  • The aqueous gel carrier is naturally absorbed
  • CaHA microspheres are naturally metabolized by macrophages
  • Patient’s own natural collagen is left behind, providing structural support for the dermis and facilitating the long-lasting effects of RADIESSE®
